‘I hope they serve beer in hell’ – by Tucker Max
‘I hope they serve beer in hell.’ – by Tucker Max
I picked this book at an airport bookstore just looking for something interesting and different to read. A little background. Tucker Max is a real person. He went to law school and I assume he graduated but decided it was not his cup of tea and became a writer instead. He started out as a blogger of which caught some publishers eye and the rest is history. Apparently he did an MTV show and the book is being made into a movie, blah blah blah. The book is basically a diary of sorts that talks about his conquests as a single guy and a partier. I have to admit I did chuckle through most of the book. It’s an easy read for people and would be great for people with ADD or ADHD. In retrospect after reading it I think it is quit sad. He seems like he has a lot going in his life, but also seems to be troubled with alcoholism and sexual addiction. The majority of the book regurgitates stories of picking up girls, drinking until you vomit or pass out and basically not really giving a shit what people think. He constantly degrades women throughout the book and treats them as just a sex toy there for his amusement. There are moments in the book where the lighbulb comes on and he sees his potential errors in thinking. That in itself does not change the whole course of the book. It’s only a couple of small chapters where a giggle is omitted and a real life situation causes him to grow a little emotionally. It’s definitely a guy humor book.

I personally give it a one star. I think he does have a gift for writing but would really like to see his next book be something a little more mature, that is if he doesn’t get killed in a drunken accident or contract something horrible like HIV!!! HELLO TUCKER, WAKE UP. The stories of poop and drunkenness are great if you are in high school but adults want a little more meat in between the covers. It really surprises me it made the NY Times Bestseller list. If you are going to read it just pick up a copy at the nearest Half-Price bookstore or any local garage sale. I’m sure there will be copies for real cheap soon.
